What a Bird Thought
Student Write-ups | Poem

Hiding in a shell,
The world was full of fright.
It thought,
“I’m safe here, nice and tight.”

Came the warmth
For it to hatch,
Beginning a new life,
It longed for love and care.

Then came the moment
its tiny wings would spread.
It cracked the shell
and heard the outside world sing.

“What? No one killed me?”
It thought.
The world it came to see
was the opposite of what it believed.

The warm sun,
The silver moon,
Nature’s precious gifts—
It couldn’t wait to explore them soon.
